There’s something incredibly fun about turning an ordinary space into a little pocket of holiday magic—and this year, that space happened to be my garage. What started as a simple idea quickly became one of my favorite festive setups yet. With a bit of creativity, a handful of Christmas décor, and a whole lot of holiday spirit, I created a cozy in‑garage photo studio and invited family and friends to stop by for pictures with Santa or just warm, joyful holiday portraits.
Creating the Holiday Set in a Garage
Garages aren’t usually the first-place people think of when they imagine a photo studio, but with the right setup, they can be surprisingly perfect. For this shoot, I built the entire scene around a white seamless backdrop, which instantly brightened the space and gave everything a clean, classic look. To keep the garage itself out of sight, I hung drapes along the sides, creating a soft frame that made the whole setup feel intentional and inviting.
Then came the fun part—decorating.
I brought in six Christmas trees, each one adding its own layer of sparkle and depth. Arranged around the backdrop, they created a mini winter wonderland right inside the garage. The warm glow of the lights made the space feel magical, even though we were just a few feet away from storage bins and camping equipment.
A simple bench became the anchor for the photos—perfect for Santa visits, family groupings, or sweet solo portraits. To add even more holiday charm, I placed wrapped gifts around the trees and bench. They worked beautifully as props and added that extra touch of Christmas cheer.
Inviting Family and Friends
Once everything was set, I opened the garage door and welcomed family and friends to stop by. Some came for the full Santa experience—kids whispering their wish lists, parents laughing behind the camera, Santa handing out candy canes. Others just wanted festive family photos without Santa, and the setup worked perfectly for both.
The best part was watching everyone walk in and immediately light up. There’s something special about stepping into a transformed space, especially when it’s unexpected. The garage became a little holiday hideaway, full of laughter, warm moments, and the kind of memories that make the season feel magical.
Why I Loved This Setup
This shoot reminded me that you don’t need a traditional studio to create beautiful images. With a few thoughtful choices and a bit of imagination, even the most ordinary spaces can become something extraordinary. The trees, the lights, the gifts, the drapes—they all worked together to create a cozy, festive environment that felt both polished and personal.
And honestly, hosting it at home made the whole experience even sweeter. It felt intimate, relaxed, and full of genuine holiday joy.
